Feb 24 - Salt Flats Tour Day 3 (Uyuni)‏

Didn't sleep well; felt like hell

Hoping pain would leave me; that morning sucked, believe me
Would've went on for hours; if not for hot springs' healing powers
95 degrees; I could have gotten on my knees
to thank Mother Earth; for giving me a rebirth
Bounced, jarred, and tossed; the rough road would exhaust
Mother Earth shoots out warning blast; to say 'you're going way too fast'
This sign we did not heed; soon returning to a breakneck speed
Slight bend in road; where we definitely should have slowed
Could feel tires slip in rear; over compensation in his steer
50 miles per hour; holding breath, began to cower
long skid, there's the ditch; staring straight down it's pitch
Rear tire 'BANG'; rim digs in like fang
Airborne 'FUCK'; inhale suck
Back seat shriek; no time to freak
I only see ground; for instant no sound
then deafening 'WHAM'; into ground we slam
glass everywhere; then Jorge in the air
Sling shotted down; head 1st into the ground
Skid to stop; glass ground is where I flop
'Megan, Megan are you all right?'; I scream out with pure fright
no reply; louder I cry
'Megan, Megan are you okay?'; 'yes, yes!' she'd finally reply
Me and Megan were in tact; no one injured the blessed fact
I climbed up to door drivers side; out through window is where I'd slide
All of us in pure shock; barely able to think or talk
Hugs and kisses 'we're alive!'; appreciation for life it did revive
Adventure is here Bolivia vaunted; This is more more than we ever wanted
Bolivia is great, don't get me wrong; but it's time that we end it's song

Feb 23 - Salt Flats Tour Day 2 (Uyuni)‏

Didn't hear alarm, ear plugs in, Megan had to wake me

Saying my name, a gentle poke, unsuccessful she had to shake me
A sunshiny day we were on our way
(after I finally rose) to pink flamingos
Our group multifarious the whole time remained gregarious
Our topics of conversation various at times they were downright hilarious
We saw 4 colored lakes and a tree made of stone
A bad snack it makes even though it resembled an ice cream cone
In the jeep for hours in trances
I for one trying to grasp these Brobdingnagian expanses
At times no road Jorge, our guide, blazed a trail
Across the moonscape punishing jeep suspension we'd sail
Arrived at dorms at 4 to say the least it was monastic
Compared to last night it was fantastic
I played Emilie in backgammon, her board, French rules
Her dice rolled true, mine acted like fools
Cribbage next, played Rikke by 5 points, I was the winner
I'm reluctant to admit she's a total beginner
For a while Megan left, doing duty as a nurse
That profession to me seems both a blessing and a curse
Electricity cut off at 10 o'clock, It was bed time
Poor little Danes couldn't sleep so we sang them a nursery rhyme

Feb 22 - Salt Flats Tour Day 1 (Uyuni)‏

We waited almost an hour for the pages to be loaded
by the end no purchased flight, but my head almost exploded
Like I told Megan 'like water off a duck's back'
when we traded off so I could go pack
We were already 15 minutes tardy
for our 3 day travel party
We met Rikke and Laura who seemed chill
Being 20 minutes late didn't spoil their good will
Salt on legs, salt on toes
salt on lips, salt on clothes
Emilie the francesa made our tour of the lakes
she thought of perception trick photos, it'd be fun to take
The horizon was stunning, lake and sky merged into one
The while time we were there we had the bright sun
We went to an abandoned train fallen apart
100 years ago it was junk now apparently it's art
4 hours of beauty then we reached where we'd stay
no sheets on the beds just filth where we'd lay
Dinner was good, when it came
Everyone but Megan ate the same
Dish of lasagna with soup as 1st course
Dinner was great with Nati and her kitchen the source
10 o'clock finished dinner all fading quickly
but falling asleep in a dirty bed, that can be prickly

The alarm sang out early

Usually making me surly
But with weeks of anticipation
On this peregrination
For this bicycle declivity
The sleep stopper was met with levity
I could sense Megan's anxious worry
Through her vehemence that we hurry
Elbowing passed people in the street
To get to where we would meet
the group where in a bus we would hop
to drive up the pass all the way to the top
One hour later we were invidiously greeted
by miserable weather; it rained, snowed, and sleeted
We started the descent cold, wet, and fast!
And to Megan's relief, she was far from the last
Some of the cliffs dropped ridiculously
In these sections we rode meticulously
Yeah I took some chances
With the edge had some dances
Jamie, remember the descent into the shire?
It was like that, but steeper and drops even higher
I rode with the front guide
he showed me some tricks
Not a race but definitely a fast ride
A full adreneline fix
We stopped at a preserve, saw monkeys throw shit
To me it was dodge ball, to Megan a hit
We agreed it was a highlight, to mee it was bliss
If you come to Bolivia, it´s something you shouldn't miss
To the crew that went with us on the Salt Flat Tour. Don't worry, I'll tell our story soon enough.
